What each marketplace charges to list and sell

Only one of the five major US marketplaces charges a real per-listing fee. Etsy takes $0.20 per listing, and that listing renews when the item sells and again every four months. Amazon, Walmart and TikTok Shop charge nothing to list. eBay gives you 250 free listings a month and then charges $0.35 each. So if you are choosing a platform on listing fees, the decision is almost made for you, and it is almost certainly the wrong basis for the decision.

The listing fee is rarely more than two percent of the cost

On a $30 sale, Etsy’s $0.20 listing fee is under one percent of what you pay Etsy. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% plus $0.25 processing charge take roughly fifteen times more. Every platform works the same way: the small visible fee draws attention while the percentage fee does the damage.

Where each platform actually gets expensive

Amazon and Walmart charge referral rates that swing from single digits to twenty percent depending on category, so the category selector changes the ranking more than the platform choice does. eBay looks mid-range until you add the per-order charge, which hurts most on cheap items. Etsy is the only one that bills processing separately, so its stack looks worse on paper and is competitive once you remember eBay and Amazon bake processing into their percentage.

Amazon’s break-even is 41 sales a month

The Professional plan costs $39.99 a month with no per-item fee. The Individual plan is free monthly and charges $0.99 per item sold. Divide $39.99 by $0.99 and you get 40.4, so from the 41st sale of the month the Professional plan is cheaper and below that it is not. That is the single clearest break-even in marketplace pricing, and the calculator marks it against your own volume.

Unsold stock is where fee models diverge

On Amazon, Walmart and TikTok Shop, a listing that never sells costs nothing. On Etsy it has cost $0.20 and will cost another $0.20 in four months. On eBay, insertion fees past the free allowance are not refunded. For a large catalogue with a low sell-through rate this is the difference that matters, which is why the calculator asks for listings and sales separately rather than assuming everything you list moves.

TikTok Shop is cheapest on paper and not always in practice

A single 6% referral covering payment processing is the lowest base rate of the five. The catch is that sales on TikTok Shop are largely creator-driven, and affiliate commissions of ten to twenty-five percent sit on top of that 6% for affiliate-attributed orders. Compare the base rates here, then decide separately how much of your volume will need a creator behind it.

Before you ask

Marketplace listing fees, answered

Which marketplace has the lowest listing fees?

Walmart and TikTok Shop charge nothing to list. Amazon charges nothing per listing but takes either $39.99 a month or $0.99 per item sold. eBay gives 250 free listings a month then charges $0.35 each. Etsy is the only one with a true per-listing fee at $0.20, and it renews.

How much does it cost to list on Etsy?

$0.20 per listing. The listing expires after four months, and it also renews automatically when the item sells, so a product that sells three times in a year costs more than $0.20 in listing fees alone. On top of that Etsy takes 6.5% transaction plus 3% and $0.25 payment processing.

Does Amazon charge a listing fee?

No. Amazon has no per-listing charge. You pay either the Professional plan at $39.99 a month with no per-item fee, or the Individual plan with no monthly fee and $0.99 per item sold. The referral fee of roughly 8 to 20 percent by category applies either way.

When is the Amazon Professional plan worth it?

At 41 sales a month. $39.99 divided by the $0.99 per-item fee gives 40.4, so from the 41st sale the Professional plan is cheaper. Below that the Individual plan wins. The calculator marks that break-even against your own volume.

How many free listings does eBay give?

250 a month without a store subscription, then $0.35 for each additional listing. Store subscriptions raise the allowance substantially, which is why high-volume sellers subscribe even when they do not need the branding.

What is eBay’s final value fee in 2026?

About 13.6% in most categories plus a per-order charge of $0.30 on items up to $10 and $0.40 above that. Payment processing is included in that percentage rather than billed separately, which is different from Etsy and Shopify.

Does TikTok Shop charge listing fees?

No listing fee, no monthly subscription. TikTok Shop charges a single 6% referral fee in most US categories, 5% on select jewelry, and that one fee covers payment processing too. New sellers get a reduced rate for their first month.

Does Walmart charge a monthly fee to sell?

No. Walmart Marketplace has no listing fee and no monthly subscription. You pay only a referral fee, which runs from roughly 6% to 20% depending on the contract category, with 15% being the most common.

Why is my real cost higher than the listing fee?

Because listing fees are the smallest number in the stack. On a typical sale the referral or final value fee takes ten to twenty percent, payment processing takes another three percent plus a fixed amount, and any subscription divided by your monthly volume sits on top. The listing fee is usually under two percent of the total.

Do listing fees count if the item never sells?

On Etsy and eBay, yes. An Etsy listing costs $0.20 whether or not it sells, and expires after four months. eBay insertion fees beyond the free allowance are non-refundable. On Amazon, Walmart and TikTok Shop an unsold listing costs nothing, which changes the arithmetic for large slow-moving catalogues.

Are these the official 2026 rates?

They are the published 2026 US rates for each platform. Marketplaces revise category referral rates periodically, so verify in Seller Central, Seller Hub, Shop Manager or Seller Center before pricing a large catalogue.

Is this calculator free?

Yes, free with no signup and no email gate. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
