UGC Ad CTAs: Nine Closing Lines That Convert

What to say at the end of a creator video, nine closing lines that work, and how to test one without wasting spend.

The short answer

  • The CTA belongs at about 12 seconds of a 15 second ad, spoken while the product is still on screen. At 14.5 seconds the viewer has usually swiped.
  • One action, not two. "Follow us and click the link and use the code" is three asks, so the viewer does none of them.
  • Spoken line, on-screen text and platform button must all say the same thing. A mismatch shows up as a high click rate with no conversions.

A UGC ad's call to action is not the button. It is the last three seconds of the video, and it decides whether the interest the hook created turns into a tap.

Most UGC creative fails at the end rather than the start. The hook lands, the demonstration is fine, and then the video stops without telling anyone what to do, or it ends on a line borrowed from a television commercial. Both waste the attention already paid for.

What is a call to action in a UGC ad?

It is the instruction that closes the video: one action, stated by the creator, in their own words, while the product is still on screen.

A platform CTA button says "Shop now". That is a label, not persuasion. The CTA that moves the number is spoken and shown inside the creative, because that is what the viewer is actually watching. The button is the destination; the last line is the reason.

Where the CTA belongs in the timeline

In a 15 second ad: hook in the first three, proof in the middle, action in the last three, with the product visible the whole time.

15-second UGC structure
0 to 3s
Hook
Problem or result, stated flat
3 to 12s
Proof
Product used, in one continuous take where possible
12 to 15s
CTA
One action, spoken and on screen

The common mistake is a CTA at 14.5 seconds, after the viewer has already swiped. Say it at 12, then let the product hold the frame while it registers.

Nine CTAs that work in UGC, and when to use each

Match the CTA to how much the viewer already knows, not to how badly you want the sale.

  • "Link is in the bio, go look at the reviews first." Cold audience, considered purchase. Sends them to proof rather than to checkout, which converts better on a first touch.
  • "Try it for a week. If nothing changes, send it back." Removes the risk instead of adding urgency. Only usable if the returns policy genuinely says this.
  • "I paid full price for this. It is on sale now." Retargeting. Works because it comes from a buyer, not from the brand.
  • "Message the page and ask for the size chart." WhatsApp and DM-led selling, which is most of Pakistan and the Gulf. A conversation is a lower ask than a card payment.
  • "Order before Thursday and it arrives for the weekend." Deadline tied to a real delivery window, not a fake countdown.
  • "If you have been scrolling past this for a week, that is your answer." Retargeting a warm audience that has seen the ad three times.
  • "Cash on delivery, so you pay when it reaches you." The single highest-performing CTA line for a new store in a COD market.
  • "Save this for when you need it." Saves and shares, which lower future delivery costs on the same creative.
  • "Tap the link, pick a size, done in two minutes." Late funnel, low-friction product. Names the effort so the tap feels small.

None of these are clever. That is deliberate. A CTA that sounds written performs worse than a CTA that sounds said, because the entire premise of UGC is that a person is talking rather than a brand advertising.

Spoken, on screen, or the platform button?

All three, saying the same thing, at the same moment.

Three layers, one instruction
Spoken
The creator says it
Carries the trust. Most viewers watch with sound on for the first few seconds of a UGC ad.
On screen
Caption or text overlay
Carries the muted viewers. Keep it inside the safe area so the platform UI does not cover it.
Platform button
Shop now, Learn more
Carries the click. Should match the promise made in the video, or the landing page feels like a different offer.

When the spoken line says "message us" and the button says "Shop now", you are asking for two different things in the same second. That mismatch shows up as a high click rate with no conversions.

What kills a CTA

Four failures account for most of it, and all four are cheap to avoid.

  • Two actions in one line. "Follow us and check the link and use the code" is three asks, so the viewer does none of them.
  • Urgency the viewer knows is fake. A countdown that resets on reload costs you more trust than the sale is worth.
  • A CTA the landing page cannot honour. If the video promises free delivery, the checkout has to show free delivery before the address field, not after.
  • Brand voice at the end of a creator video. Fourteen seconds of a real person, then one second of corporate copy, and the whole ad reads as staged in hindsight.

How to test CTAs without burning budget

Hold the hook and the footage constant. Change only the last three seconds.

One variable, three variants
Same hook
0 to 3s identical
Same proof
3 to 12s identical
CTA changes
A, B, C
A  Cash on delivery, so you pay when it arrives
B  Message the page and ask for your size
C  Link in bio, read the reviews first

Three variants, one ad set, enough budget for roughly 50 results each before you read anything. Judging a CTA on 8 conversions is judging noise. TikTok's own Creative Center is useful here for seeing which closing lines are currently running in your category.

A CTA checklist

  1. One action, not two
  2. Spoken by the creator, in their words
  3. Repeated on screen for muted viewers
  4. Platform button matches the spoken promise
  5. Product visible while the CTA is said
  6. Said at 12 seconds, not 14.5
  7. Landing page honours the exact promise
  8. Payment or contact method named if it removes friction
  9. Tested against two alternatives on the same footage
  10. Read at 50 results per variant, not sooner

Where creative stops being the problem

If three good CTAs all fail on the same product, the CTA is not what is broken.

At that point the issue is upstream: the offer, the price against local alternatives, or the landing page. Creative can only get the right person to the door. What happens after the tap belongs to the store build, and the hook work belongs in the article on what makes a UGC ad convert.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good CTA for a UGC ad?

One action, spoken by the creator, in the last three seconds, while the product is still on screen. For a new store in a cash-on-delivery market, naming the payment method outperforms urgency: "cash on delivery, so you pay when it arrives".

Should the CTA be at the start or the end of a UGC ad?

The end, at around 12 seconds of a 15 second ad. Saying it at 14.5 seconds is too late, because the viewer has usually swiped. An early CTA interrupts the proof that earns the tap.

How many CTAs should one video have?

One. Two asks in the same line, follow us and click the link, produce fewer of both. If you want a second outcome, make it a second creative.

Does the platform button matter if the creator says the CTA?

Both matter, and they have to agree. When the spoken line says message us and the button says Shop now, the click rate stays high and the conversion rate collapses, because the landing page answers a question nobody asked.

How do I test which CTA works?

Hold the hook and the footage constant and change only the closing three seconds. Run three variants in one ad set and wait for roughly 50 results each before reading the result.
